The Top 20 All-Time Science-Fiction and Fantasy Films
                       (As of January 1, 1996)

It is always difficult, some would say dangerous, to offer a
list claiming to be the Top 20 anything. However, as part of The
Sci-Fi Trivia Marathon, I thought it would be appropriate and fun to
offer a chart of the Top 20 most popular science-fiction and fantasy
films of all-time. This list is based solely on the performance of
the film at the United States boxoffice. Why? Because it is the most
reliable indicator available in regard to a film's popularity.
I think you will find the list interesting and, perhaps,
surprising in what films made the Top 20 and what films did not.
There will most likely be some debate as to the inclusion of
certain films as science-fiction or fantasy. Films such as Batman,
the Indiana Jones films, etc. come to mind. A film was included if,
in the opinion of this author, it contained enough science-fiction
and/or fantasy elements to justify such inclusion.
It is my hope to update this list with each new edition of the
Sci-Fi Trivia Marathon. And, as always, comments and opinions are
welcome.
